Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly named the company the city contracted with for maintenance on the streetlights. Service One received the contract.
The city is a little over half way through installing the new LED streetlights and should be done by the end of June.
Some 16,709 fixtures have been swapped already, Erin Gill, director of the city`s Office of Sustainability said Tuesday. South and portions of West Knoxville have yet to receive the new lights but will soon.

When the city council approved Mayor Madeline Rogero`s $17.5 million request to retrofit the city`s entire streetlight system in 2017, it set the dollars aside. Since then, it spent $5.6 million in 2018 to buy the streetlights from KUB and has budgeted $9.5 million to pay Siemens to replace the lights. Gill said the city would likely not use all the money set aside for the project and would come in under budget.
